- explorer freeze, folder rename, KB3216755, Windows 10
Since the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary update, I have seen multiple users complaining of not being able to rename network folders. Their File Explorer would lock up for minutes at a time, and then an error would appear on the screen stating to try again, but if you refresh the file explorer windows once it becomes responsive, the folder you renamed will be whatever you named it.
This behavior has been acknowledge Microsoft in a January cumulative update which as of this writing can only be installed from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
You can find the fix here.
This will take a little bit to prepare and install and will require a restart. Please allow about 5-10 minutes of downtime once you restart.
In a domain environment, this can be deployed with WSUS to all of your Windows 10 Anniversary installations.
